Producer Of The Month: Track Renegade Chinchilla
Posted: Sunday - January 13, 2013

Firstly, give us some background info as it relates to who you are?

I go by the name Chinchilla. I’m a Baltimore, MD native, Los Angeles, CA based music producer and songwriter. I’ve been doing music my whole life, but I’ve been making beats and producing music for the last 7 years or so and I’ve been writing songs since I was in Elementary school (“Real Talk”).

What style of music do you focus on?

Well, I do all major genres, Pop, Dance, R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Dancehall, Latin, etc. But my main focus is R&B and Pop.

How would you describe the signature sound of your production company?

I think Kanye stole my motto, G.O.O.D. Music. LOL! If you wanna describe my sound, it’s just simple as that……GOOD music. That’s what I’m out here to make.

Who or what are your influences?

I have a lot of musical influences that have inspired me to make and create music. From Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Babyface & L.A. Reid and Narada Michael Walden from a music production perspective, to Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Jon B. and Madonna from an artist perspective.

What type of software/ hardware do you use?

Currently I’m using a PC setup w/ Ableton Live 8 & Propellerhead Reason 5. With the addition of various vst’s and live instruments.

What artists are you working with?

At the moment, I’m working with a couple of local artist on collaborative projects. Nothing major as of yet.

Do you have a publishing deal or are you self- published?

I'm Self-published for the time being.

Considering labels are less concerned with developing new artists & want a ready made package, who do u think will be primarily responsible for finding & breaking new artists in the future?

I think the producers will. Nowadays, people listen to songs for the “beats”. Unfortunately, we don’t have any more Whitney’s or Mariah’s, no more “SAAANGERS” (“like she can SANG.”), as well as no real and true LYRICISTS in Hip Hop, so a lot of the production on the current radio hits carry a lot of today’s artist. So I think it will be up to the producers to find the right artist for hit beats, and develop new careers that way in the future.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be and why?

For me, music is a sign of the times. We don’t talk about stuff that doesn’t exist. We don’t make songs about “Magic Dragons” or “Aliens.” But nowadays, artist and songwriters only talk about the negative things in life. Rappers rap about drugs, violence, and refer to females as “b*tches!” And in R&B it’s all about cheating or being cheated on, and “male bashing”. They don’t realize this stuff bleeds into our communities. They talk it, and then we go out and do it and live it. I just wish artist would rap and sing about the good things in life and not glorify the bad. There are still people in love, people having fun, and doing the right thing, tryna live right. I just wish we could rap and sing about the good, not the bad and the ugly.

What direction do you see rap music taking in the future?

Right now, it’s NOT going in the right direction in my eyes. “Where are the LYRICISTS at?” It seems like, nowadays, if you can make up a dance and rap about it, record labels give you a deal. I’m not gonna say names. Then the other half of rappers rap about stuff they don’t do. You talk murder this, and murder that, “whippin’ up that work”, coke, crack, dodging the feds and everything else, but you ain’t never been to jail. “Where they do that at?” Fabricated lyrics dominate the game now, and that’s “no bueno” in my opinion. There are plenty of talented rappers out there RIGHT NOW, but they get overshadowed by these new “one hit wonders.” It’s time for a change, for real.

What project or projects are you working on?

Right now, I’m just working on getting placements, tryna perfect my craft and get better, and LORD willing, get to work with some major artist soon.

What are your goals?

Musically, my main goal is to be one of the music industry’s “Go-to Producers.” I wanna produce tracks for everybody in the game. I listen to EVERYTHING, and I wanna produce tracks w/ all the major artist. I wanna LIVE in the studio. Producing for Kelly Rowland one day, to Taylor Swift the next, and then keep it going. I want to make a career out of making music. That’s the dream.

Which artists or producers you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Ha!!! That list is LONG. Too long to put here, but I’ll shorten it for ya a bit. Artist wise? I’d LOVE to work with Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Kelly Rowland, Madonna, Trey Songz and Taylor Swift to name a few. Producer wise? I’d say Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for sure, Timbaland, Tim and Bob, David Guetta and Bangladesh.

How can an artist get in contact with you?

Well artist can check out my site first and foremost, www.chinchillamusic.net. But to contact me directly, I’m ALWAYS on twitter, so they can get at me there, @chinchillabeats, or email me at chinchillatheproducer@gmail.com

Any shoutouts?

Definitely wanna shout out @urbanthreshold, Mr. Jesse Jess for the opportunity. But most importantly, I want to shout out everyone who still hasn’t given up on their dreams. Cause for some of us, it’s all that we have.
